The Impact of External Events on Singapore

The one external event that I am going to do is about World War 2 and its impact to Singapore. I chose this event as I think it had impacted Singapore greatly and is also very memorable. The battle was fought by the Japanese and it lasted from 8 December 1941 to 15 February 1942.

After the japanese inveded singapore, city was renamed to Syonan-to and those who held anti-Japanese sentiment were eliminated. Also as the chinese was suspected by the imperial authorities, many were killed in the Sook Ching Massacre. The malays and indian were also not spared in the hardships and killings. These impacted our lives greatly as we were once a peaceful place when suddenly our peacefullness was disrupted by a group of people and we were not even prepared to fight agaist them. Also, based on the source, the malays and indians were also not spared.so you can imagine that you did nothing wrong but yet you also got killed.these shows how cruel the japanese were and how ours life’s that time were filled with blood and fearness.

Also during that time, once somebody dare to talk back, rebel or not bow down to the japanese soldiers, they would be bayonetted on the spot. I think this is very cruel and has impacted our lives such that when this people that are killed so cruelly, their family members who maybe around at that time especially children, would witness such unjusticed and cruel death of their family members, they would be traumatised for life especially young children.the child would grow up each day tortured by the memories of the cruel death of their family members.

Lastly, the japanese also impacted our lives greatly by killing people they suspected for fun.they would blindfold the people they suspected and lined them in a single roe at the beach.then one by one, they would use their guns and shoot them from far away with much pleasure.as the people fall down and die one by one they did not feel a single sadness or remorse.even worse, they would not even tell the family members that they are dead and so some familily members do not even know even if their relatives are alive.this would have impacted them greatly as if the dead person was the sole breadwinner, then the whole family would have to starve to death.and especially if the house is left with only babies and toddlers, they would have no parents to feed them and would eventually die without even seeing the world and future yet.even if some were adopted later, they would have vague memories of their parents and would live a unhappy childhood.

In conclusion,I think that this event impacted a lot of peple in te same way, the death of your love ones.it made singapore a messy and sorrowful place in that time.and I believe that peple who lived through that time and are still alive now would forgive but will never forget .
